This helmet belonged to Police Constable John Thomas. Originally PC66 of the Mid-Wales Constabulary, the amalgamation into Dyfed-Powys Police in 1968 required former Mid-Wales officers to precede their numbers with 600. So John Thomas became PC666. Helmets provided protection for officers and made them easily recognisable on the street. Roedd yr helmed hon yn perthyn i’r Cwnstabl Heddlu John Thomas. PC66 oedd ei rif gwreiddiol yn Heddlu Canolbarth Cymru. Ond yn sgil uno â Heddlu Dyfed Powys ym 1968 roedd rhaid i swyddogion Heddlu’r Canolbarth gynt roi 600 o flaen eu rhifau. Felly daeth John Thomas yn Gwnstabl Heddlu PC666. Roedd helmedau’n amddiffyn swyddogion ac yn sicrhau bod y cyhoedd yn gallu eu hadnabod yn hawdd ar y stryd.
