Formal, posed photograph of colliery workers gathered at the pithead, in working clothes, some carrying lamps; photograph shows the range of ages employed at the colliery at the turn of the 20th century. Ynyscedwyn Colliery was purchased by George Crane in the early 1840s to supply anthracite to his iron works. Ynyscedwyn Iron Works was the first to produce iron using anthracite coal. In 1896 the colliery employed 225 people – 193 underground and 43 at the surface. It closed in 1968. Ffotograff ffurfiol o weithwyr y pwll glo wedi ymgasglu wrth ben y pwll, mewn dillad gwaith, rhai yn cario lampau; mae’r ffotograff yn dangos yr ystod oedran a gyflogid yn y lofa ar droad yr 20fed ganrif. Prynwyd Glofa Ynyscedwyn gan George Crane ar ddechrau’r 1840au i gyflenwi glo carreg i’w waith haearn. Gwaith Haearn Ynyscedwyn oedd y cyntaf i gynhyrchu haearn gan ddefnyddio glo carreg. Ym 1896 roedd y pwll glo yn cyflogi 225 o bobl – 193 dan ddaear a 43 ar yr wyneb Caeodd yn 1968.
