This tombstone, known as the ‘Maiden Stone’, depicts a Roman soldier and his wife. It was found near Brecon Gaer - the Roman fort at Aberyscir - in the 16th century and was subsequently placed beside the Roman road. It is badly eroded even in early drawings, but was clearly an elaborate and expensive memorial. Mae’r garreg fedd hon a adweinir yn Saesneg fel y ‘Maiden Stone’ yn portreadu milwr Rhufeinig a’i wraig. Fe’i canfuwyd ger Caer Aberhonddu – sef y gaer Rufeinig yn Aberyscir – yn y 16eg ganrif ac fe’i lleolwyd wedyn wrth ochr y ffordd Rufeinig. Mae wedi erydu’n wael, hyd yn oed mewn lluniadau cynnar, ond roedd yn amlwg ei bod hi’n gofeb gywrain a chostus.
