Fortune telling machines were a type of amusement which would predict one’s future upon receiving payment of a penny. Many were automatons but this example, from a 1930s arcade on the Brecon Promenade, has a clock-face where the hand of the ‘clock’ would sweep around to select a pre-written prophecy. Buodd peiriannau dweud ffortiwn yn fath o ddiddanwch a fyddai’n rhagweld dyfodol rhywun ar ôl talu ceiniog. Roedd llawer yn awtomata ond mae gan ein henghraifft ni, o arcêd o’r 1930au ar Bromenâd Aberhonddu, wyneb cloc. Byddai bys y ‘cloc’ yn troi o gwmpas i ddethol proffwydoliaeth a oedd wedi’i hysgrifennu’n barod.
