The stocks were instruments of punishment, usually for minor misdemeanours such as drunkenness or public disorder. These Brecon stocks were for three people and the offenders’ hands and legs were secured through the holes. Apart from the physical discomfort and exposure to the elements, the offenders would be exposed to public humiliation and occasionally assault. Defnyddiwyd y cyffion ar gyfer tri unigolyn gan gau dwylo a choesau’r troseddwyr yn y tyllau. Yn ogystal ag anesmwythder corfforol a bod allan ym mhob tywydd, byddai’r troseddwyr yn agored i gywilydd cyhoeddus ac ymosodiadau o bryd i’w gilydd.
