Before Police forces were formalised, law enforcement was often entrusted to individuals. These pistols belonged to a “law-man” responsible for Brecknockshire highways in the late 18th and early 19th century. A technological improvement on unreliable flintlock weapons, these pistols utilised a small explosive charge to light the gunpowder inside the barrel. Cyn bodolaeth Heddluoedd ffurfiol, unigolion oedd yn gyfrifol am orfodi’r gyfraith yn aml. Roedd y pistol hwn yn eiddo i “dyn y gyfraith” a oedd yn gyfrifol am briffyrdd Sir Frycheiniog tua diwedd y 18fed ganrif a dechrau’r 19eg ganrif. Roedd pistolau caps taro yn well na’r arfau carreg fflint annibynadwy, ac roedden nhw’n defnyddio taniad ffrwydrol bach i gynnau’r powdwr gwn y tu mewn i’r faril.
