These bell muffles from St Mary’s Church in Brecon were made by local bell-ringer Evan Walker in 1894 and used until the 1930s. Bells are often rung ‘half-muffled’ to give an alternate loud/soft sound for funerals and Remembrance Sunday. Traditionally, bells are rung fully muffled when the Sovereign or the church’s Vicar dies. Gwnaed y distewyddion clychau hyn o Eglwys y Santes Fair yn Aberhonddu gan y canwr clychau lleol Evan Walker ym 1894 ac fe’u defnyddiwyd tan y 1930au. Yn aml, cenir clychau yn lled-ddistaw er mwyn gwahaniaethu rhwng sain uchel/meddal ar gyfer angladdau a Sul y Cofio. Yn draddodiadol, cenir clychau sydd wedi eu distewi’n llwyr pan fo’r Sofran neu Ficer yr eglwys yn marw.
