Eel spears are made of flat metal tines (prongs) usually with rounded ends set close together. They are designed to catch eels by holding them between the tines without damaging them and thereby reducing their value. These differ from salmon spears which have barbed points to pierce and secure the fish. Gwneir gwaywffyn llysywennod o ddannedd metal gwastad, fel arfer gyda phennau crynion wedi eu gosod yn agos at ei gilydd. Maent wedi eu dylunio i ddal llysywennod trwy afael ynddynt rhwng y dannedd, fel nad ydynt yn cael eu niweidio ac felly’n lleihau eu gwerth. Mae’r gwaywffyn hyn yn wahanol i waywffyn eog, sydd â phigau bachog i dreiddio i’r pysgod a gafael ynddynt yn dynn.
