Church hourglasses were used to help the minister keep track of time during services. It takes one hour for sand to fall from the upper to the lower bulb. This hourglass, which has 'Jones 1834' written on the glass, was placed on the pulpit of St. Mary's Church, Brecon to time the sermon. Roedd awrwydrau eglwys yn cael eu defnyddio i helpu’r gweinidog i gadw golwg ar yr amser yn ystod gwasanaethau. Mae’n cymryd un awr i dywod ddisgyn o’r bylb uchaf i’r bylb isaf. Roedd yr awrwydr hwn yn cael ei roi ar bulpud Eglwys Y Santes Fair, Aberhonddu i amseru’r bregeth. Fe welwch fod ‘Jones 1834’ wedi’i ysgrifennu ar y gwydr.
