Candidus was a Roman trooper of the Spanish Vettonian cavalry stationed at Brecon Gaer - the Roman fort at Aberyscir. He joined the army aged 17 but died aged 20. He is commemorated on this tombstone of the late first century AD. The expensive carving suggests that he (or the burial club into which soldiers contributed) was well off. Milwr Rhufeinig yn y marchoglu Fetonaidd Sbaenaidd yng Nghaer Aberhonddu, sef y gaer Rufeinig yn Aberyscir, oedd Candidus. Ymunodd â’r fyddin yn 17 oed, ond bu farw’n 20 oed. Caiff ei goffáu ar y garreg fedd hon o ddiwedd y ganrif gyntaf OC. Mae’r cerfwaith drudfawr yn awgrymu ei fod ef (neu’r clwb claddu yr oedd y milwyr yn cyfrannu ato) yn gefnog.
