This straw work box was made by Napoleonic prisoners of war. Between 1806 and 1812 eighty-six French officers were ‘paroled’ in Brecon. This meant that they were allowed to walk around the town but had to return to their lodgings at a specified time each day. To supplement their small allowance, they would make intricate objects and sell them to local people. Gwnaethpwyd y blwch gwaith gwellt hwn gan garcharorion rhyfel Napoleonaidd. Rhwng 1806 a 1812 cafodd wyth deg chwech o swyddogion Ffrainc eu 'parolio' yn Aberhonddu. Roedd hyn yn golygu eu bod yn cael cerdded o amgylch y dref ond roedd yn rhaid iddynt ddychwelyd i'w llety ar adeg benodol bob dydd. I ategu eu lwfans bach, byddent yn gwneud gwrthrychau cywrain ac yn eu gwerthu i bobl leol.
