Women's Voluntary Service summer uniform coat. The WVS was officially launched by Lady Reading in June 1938. The WVS helped with the evacuation of children, air raids during the Blitz; collection of clothing known as ‘Bundles for Britain', and the running of food banks and information points. The service continued to run after WW2 when food rationing remained in place. The uniforms were designed by Digby Morton in June 1939 with an overcoat and hat made of Harris Tweed supplied by Harrods. A suit uniform followed, but it was not free and cost £9 4s &d in 1940. By 1941 more affordable options were available and with rationing in place the uniforms were managed by the Ministry of Home Security. This coat is made of a heavy tweed fabric with an interwoven green and grey herring bone pattern. Double breasted with 6 buttons, a detachable belt, and red artificial silk lining. Côt gwisg yr Haf Gwasanaeth Gwirfoddol y Merched. Lansiwyd y WVS yn swyddogol gan y Fonesig Reading ym Mehefin 1938. Bu aelodau’r WVS yn helpu gyda mudo plant, cyrchoedd awyr yn ystod y Blitz; casglu dillad dan gynllun ‘Bundles for Britain', a rhedeg banciau bwyd a mannau gwybodaeth. Parhaodd y gwasanaeth hwn ar ôl diwedd yr Ail Ryfel Byd, pan roedd dognau bwyd yn dal i fodoli. Dyluniwyd y gwisgoedd gan Digby Morton ym Mehefin 1939 gyda chôt fawr a het a wnaethpwyd o Frethyn Harris a gyflenwyd gan Harrods. Wedyn daeth gwisg siwt, ond roedd yn rhaid talu amdano – y pris oedd £9 4s &d ym 1940. Erbyn 1941 roedd opsiynau mwy fforddiadwy ar gael, a gyda’r dognau’n parhau, y Weinyddiaeth Diogelwch Cartref oedd yn rheoli’r gwisgoedd. Gwnaethpwyd y gôt hon o ddefnydd brethyn trwm gyda phatrwm gwehyddiad saethben gwyrdd a llwyd. Côt â chaead dwbl yw gyda 6 botwm, belt y gellir ei dynnu ffwrdd, a leinin sidan artiffisial coch.
